SafePack equipment for the cold chain

Thermal containers, conditioned cool packs and temperature loggers developed by BIOCARD work together to protect temperature-sensitive cargo and record the conditions along its route.

Three parts of one system

BIOCARD has worked in temperature-controlled logistics since 1989 and in clinical trial logistics since 2007. We develop SafePack equipment ourselves, so the container, cooling configuration and temperature record form a single process.

SafePack thermal containers

Single-use EPS and reusable polyurethane models, with different capacities and outer covers. The model is selected for the cargo volume, required temperature, transit time and outside conditions.

PCM cool packs

Phase-change materials help maintain the selected temperature range. The type, number and conditioning of the cool packs depend on the shipment; the prepared arrangement must be kept intact.

SmartSensor and SafePack HUB

The logger records temperature every minute. A nearby phone or hub reads its data over Bluetooth without opening the container. The hub collects readings in a warehouse or vehicle.

Temperature ranges and transit time

Configurations are available for +2…+8 °C, +15…+25 °C and frozen cargo. Dry-ice configurations have confirmed results at −70 °C and below under the conditions in the relevant test protocol.

With Max cool packs, suitable SafePack configurations maintain the required range for up to 96 hours under their test conditions. This is not a universal duration for every model or route. A dry-ice shipment needs a separate assessment: duration depends on the model, amount of ice, outside temperature and route.

Each container has its own cooling configuration. Cargo requiring different temperature ranges can therefore be transported together, subject to the agreed shipment conditions. See temperature-controlled transport.

Validation and supporting documents

SafePack tests cover SP-5, SP-9, SP-20, SP-32, SP-50, SP-80, PS-1 and PS XL. Tested ranges include +2…+8 °C, +15…+25 °C and −18 °C and below. All these models except PS XL have also been tested with dry ice.

Each model and tested range has a protocol with a number and date. Ask your manager for the relevant full document by email and for help selecting the container and cooling configuration for your shipment.

The reusable medical SafePack thermal container with cooling elements is registered in Russia as a medical device: registration certificate РЗН 2016/4290. The Roszdravnadzor register entry contains the registration documents and instructions.

How the shipment is prepared

The thermal container arrives at the sender with the required conditioned cool packs already arranged. The sender places the cargo in the inner liner. The driver closes and seals the container. Do not rearrange the cool packs yourself.

Dry ice, when required, is added by BIOCARD warehouse staff. Any replenishment on a long route must be agreed separately. Tell us the cargo dimensions, weight, required range, origin, destination and planned date so that the manager can check the configuration.

What you receive after delivery

The SmartSensor temperature report can be downloaded as a SafePack PDF. In the client account it appears in the shipment card, in the Files tab, when it has been attached to the order. If it is missing, send the shipment number to your manager.

Bluetooth reading depends on a nearby receiver; the logger does not provide continuous transmission throughout the journey. Learn how to read the temperature report.

For a delivery using BIOCARD returnable equipment, the container, cool packs and logger are included and must be returned. BIOCARD arranges their collection and return. A thermal container purchased outright remains your property; sale and delivery documents are issued separately. See equipment and returnable packaging.
